Spiced Apple Cider Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 2 Tbs brown sugar

You’ll also need:

  • Dutch oven
  • Spoon & ladle
  • Cheese cloth & string
  • Measuring spoon
  • Cutting board and knife

Directions:

  • Lay out a 10” x 10”  piece of cheesecloth, folding in half once to double. Place the cinnamon stick pieces and whole cloves in the middle of the cheesecloth. Pull up the corners of the cheesecloth to make a little bundle, then tie it at the gathered point with a piece of string. Set aside.
  • In a Dutch oven, combine the apple cider with the brown sugar, and stir over medium-low heat until the brown sugar is dissolved. Add the spice bundle and orange slices.
  • Continue to simmer gently over medium-low, stirring occasionally. This will swirl the flavors together. Serve warm and enjoy.

Something I frequently do around the start of September is to make and pre-assemble several spice bundles at a time. You can typically buy cheesecloth in a package that gives you several square yards, so use this abundance and save your future self some time by cutting it up all at once, making a bunch of spice bundles, and storing them together in one large gallon-size food storage bag. That way, all you have to do whenever you want to make this camping recipe for spiced apple cider is pull out a spice bundle and slice an orange! You can also store all of these ingredients in the cabinets of your RV’s outdoor kitchen so you can make everything outside, start to finish.

An exterior kitchen is one popular floorplan feature many families love, and we’d love to show you what options we have in our inventory. Stop in or contact us today to come see!
